Interview with Trace Mendoza
Trace Mendoza is a painter from Orange County, CA who Daniel Rolnik met while on an adventure to Laguna Beach. Trace's paintings are the most detailed things on Earth, filled with epic little critters, huntsmen, ghosts, monsters, and fun! His paintings and sketchbook are featured in the February 2015 exhibit "With A Little Help From My Friends" at Daniel Rolnik Gallery, which he also curated.
What medium(s) did you use to create your piece for "With A Little Help From My Friends"?Acrylic, ink and spray paint.
Where are you from & what about that place influences your art?
I'm from Orange County, California. All the citrus.
Did you go to art school?
I studied drawing and painting at Laguna College of Art and Design. My favorite part of LCAD was the camaraderie of my peers. Everyone was constantly drawing, painting, and exploring new ideas in their studios. The dialogue between us all was fantastic. It was the first time I didn't feel like the only sea sick sailor on a ghost ship.
What's something weird and funny that has happened you?
Lets go with weird. Last month (February), I was driving on the 91 freeway and got caught cut off by what appeared to be Santa and Mrs. Clause in a little red Honda civic with the backseat and trunk filled top to bottom with miscellaneous Christmas decorations and toys.
What was your last adventure & what's your next adventure?
Last Adventure: all you can eat orange contest..
Next Adventure: some way to travel around painting murals.
What was your childhood room like?
The center of my galaxy.
How can art make the world a better place?
When people are generous with their creativity [it makes the world a better place].
Burgers, Burritos, or Brownies?
