Deenah Vollmer is a musician and writer living in Brooklyn. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she moved to New York in 2005 where she began playing in Antifolk bands including Huggabroomstik, Old Hat, the Ladies of Old Hat, and Kung Fu Crimewave. She received an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia and started working at the New Yorker magazine. In 2012, she received a Fulbright journalism grant to Germany, where she made a radio feature for NPR Berlin on Antifolk's popularity in Germany. She toured for most of 2014 with the band she co-founded The Pizza Underground. (She plays the pizza box, Macaulay Culkin plays the kazoo). This summer, she's excited to make the L.A. debut of L.A. Boobs, her duo with artist and musician Toby Goodshank (Moldy Peaches). She continues to freelance for The New Yorker, Interview Magazine, VICE, and other publications.
